BASS RIVER GARAGE

Bass River’s first garage was built by Vic Campbell and Ern McLellan in 1923 on land purchased from Scott Fulton. They operated it jointly for one year when Ern sold his interest to Vic and went to work for Dominion Chair Company. Vic continued in business until October, 1926, when he sold to Douglas MacKenzie.

Doug MacKenzie operated the business for about two years when the building was destroyed by fire. Doug rebuilt on the same site and later rented the business to Con Morris. About a year and a half later this garage was destroyed by fire.

Con Morris built a new garage - the one operating in 2001 - just west of the site of the first two garages. He operated it until 1936 when he sold the business to Harry K. Fulton.

The above information was taken from History of Bass River and from information given by Charles Campbell.
